Interesting that most of the animals people would be are animals that are becoming extinct, or are naturally kind of useless. Like the panda. Their system is capable of digesting meat, but they instead spend all their time eating leaves.
They also have hyper-specific mating conditions and usually only have one cub offspring. Its amazing they're still around in my opinion.

Other then wanting to be a polar bear (which too is dieing out), I wouldn't mind being any extremophile (simple organisms that live in conditions that are fatal to most forms of life).

In terms of whether I would be happy or not as a simple organism, if I didn't have free will, I probably wouldn't notice the difference of not having it, so I assume life would be hunky-dory.
