Microsoft is positioning itself to compete for social networking web space, a recent leak suggests.

On Thursday, the computer giant accidentally published a splash page advertising a social project under to the Microsoft-owned domain name socl.com.

The project, entitled Tulilip, promised to let users 'find what you need and share what you know easier than ever'.

A screenshot of the prototype design illustrated a green rectangle with the word 'Welcome' above a short description of the social networking service.

I don't know who will win but I can tell you who won't. Facebook. They are going to be the next MySpace. They absolutely cannot compete with Google when it comes to interface design and adding features. Facebook tech sucks.

Like TH said, Google is great with giving people what they want and adding features regularly. Facebook barely adds features and makes design choices that most people seem to dislike.

Pretty much everyone is on Facebook though. I'm not sure if people would want to make the transition, and have to re-add all their friends, info, etc.

I'm guessing this is also related to Windows 8 on phones, and keeping the contacts synchronized with your email contacts. This is what Google is doing, and it's working very well.
