New browser on old computer?

Hey
I'm right now on a pretty old computer for quite some time.
There is IE6 on it.

Am I better off with a new version of firefox or IE6?

Will the internet be noticibly faster if I use new firefox?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer. It's just not my computer, so I don't want to mess anything up.

Newer is always better. IE6 has many vulnerabilities. Get IE8 now! (Even if you do get Firefox, upgrade IE anyway.)

And if you only have IE6 you're likely missing all the updates within 2 years. So get those too!

I have to know if the internet is really faster with a newer browser.

I dont really care about security as I'm not surfing any websites that are potentially dangerous on this computer.

Well, if you go with firefox, it's going to use less ram. Plus it handles scripts/pages way better than IE6. So your browsing will go faster.

Chrome eats lots of resources. I have a relatively old computer, but it was high-end at that time and it's a little quirky at times because of Chrome. If his computer is even older or, worse, older + low-end at the time it was bought, then it's not going to handle Chrome well.

Chrome runs nicely on Pentium 4 2.0GHz but has random delay on Pentium 4 1.6GHz.

If it's an old computer, the 10 mb of ram per page. That would be a pretty big stretch.

Well, it works well on those, but you assumed that it's only the browser open. As soon as you start using other programs in parallel, it will start to lag.

IE6 is awesome, keep it. Also, use Firefox.

That is not true Chrome is way slower to start than firefox on my 2.6Ghz comp and it is way slower than firefox as well I have tried these:
IE
firefox
chrome
flock
safari

And the fastest is firefox without a doubt!
