It doesn't matter, if it's returning that value and you're not setting variables to it, you're not creating a reference to it or any form of a leak.

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish here. There's nothing wrong with just doing call CreateItem.... or anything of the sort. Locations, Groups, Timers, etc are different, as there are no functions to call these types back out of the memory. Units, items, etc have ways of getting these objects in case you need to destroy them.

i think he does not worry about memory leaks but he just wants to set the variable to null so it wont be used in one of his triggers.

Itemtype are static handles anyway, they cannot be created/destroyed.
So there's no need to null them.
