One hero for the whole game?

I've searched (and tried to do it on my own) but simply can't find a way to make it so that these conditions are followed..

-The user types in a 'term' to become which hero type they wish to be.
-Once they select their hero, they cannot select another one, even when their hero dies.
-When their hero dies, it is not revived.

I've tried many things but it comes out the same results.. if I say type in -dire to become a Dire Wolf (it's a Wolf Wars map), and i type it in again, another Dire Wolf for me to control will pop up. And if I were to say -snow for Snow Wolf, I'd get one of them as well.

Any help would be appreciated =/

Add the players to a player group when they select a hero. And check if they're in it when they type a command.

For the condition make it to where when you select the unit a variable (boolean) has to be true. and for the action make it to where the variable become false. do this for every hero and make an array for every player. it works I promise.

=/ Might you have an example of this? What I was starting to do was..

Code:
Selecting Species
    Events
Player - Player 1 (Red) types a chat message containing -dire as An exact match
    Conditions
    Actions
Player Group - Add Player 1 (Red) to (Player group(Player 1 (Red)))

As for conditions, I'm lost.

Seriuosly try what I said.... :(

Selecting Species
Events
Player - Player 1 (Red) types a chat message containing -dire as An exact match
Conditions
Boolean - Dire Wolf Boolean is (equal to) True
Actions
Change Ownership of Dire Wolf and give it to (Player 1)
Set Variable - Boolean Dire Wolf = False

Then you can't select the wolf and make the boolean work for every player....

Hmmm... So, am I understanding this right or no?

Code:
Selecting Species
    Events
Player - Player 1 (Red) types a chat message containing -dire as An exact match
    Conditions
        Select Equal to True
    Actions
If (((Triggering unit) is A Hero) Equal to True) then do (Set Select = False) else do (Do nothing)

Do that. That's not the exact wording, but it should be close. Make a new variable that is boolean. Change it to be false as soon as you say hero name. Make the array large enough to fit every hero.

::Edit::
Thank You Rabarber. :D

Eh, I put it in exactly as you said, however it is not working. When I type -dire, a dire wolf does not appear.

If it would help, I could offer the map itself so you can get an idea? xD

Boolean - Dire Wolf Boolean is (equal to) True

Well its this part that's not written correctly. You'll have to write it yourself. Did you make the variable and its array?

I'm a bit lost on the arrays part.. I created an array for it however I'm not sure what to add to the array.

How many players do you have on this map? 2? just you?

There can be up to 8 players (although it isn't set that there has to be that many). There are no teams, though, it's everyone for theirself.

Ok, teams don;t matter for arrays. Make the array 7 (one array for every player). Where does RAB go when you need him? :p

For your first problem; set the variable as True as default.

for your second question; you should have eight arrays, then.

wouldn't it be seven. since zero is an array?

so.. basically...

Code:
Selecting Species
    Events
Player - Player 1 (Red) types a chat message containing -dire as An exact match
    Conditions
        DireWolf[8] Equal to True
    Actions
Unit - Change ownership of (Last created unit) to Player 1 (Red) and Retain color
        Set DireWolf[8] = False

Or is it 7? xD. Either way.
