Don't be paranoid, Windows is perfectly fine for online purchases. But in answer to your question, potentially - yes.

You're probably more likely to have your credit card number stolen by a waiter at a restaurant. And most banks will reimburse you for transactions you didn't make, at least the first time it happens. But identity theft is real. Some banks let you create "one time use" credit card numbers that become worthless after being used.

Or you can buy one of those pre-paid Visa or Mastercards at a store.

This. I'm a waiter and I can hold onto cards long enough to memorize the numbers and CVV2. Too easy. Takes me the most of 30 seconds to get it shortly memorized and quickly write it down. I've timed myself. A waiter is more dangerous to you than Windows.
