Peanut butter to clean?

I am experiencing slow playback on a single DVD across many media players (including one on my friend's Linux box) and I was told that peanut butter could be used to clean the DVD, possibly. Is this true and should I try it?

you need a specialised liquid solution to clean the discs. Check at a music store or DVD shop to see if they stock disc cleaning fluid. It should usually come with some sort of brush too (used to clean the disc of course).

How about maple syrup... ketchup... gravy ...??

I've never heard of any of these, I can't find any real info on google and I've never tried it.

Try it with a DVD you don't care about :)

I think someone was pulling your leg. Logically speaking, toothpaste and peanut butter are very thick and are very very rough. So I mean would that be good for cleaning a disc? It'll probably scratch it up and make it not work anymore so I wouldn't try it unless it's with an old cd. Just use common sense.
