Save/Load Code, Yet Another

Nice save/load triggers, first ones i've actually understood.

I have a question about it though: is there a variable somewhere in it to change the amount of characters between the dashes or is it stuck at 4 characters then a dash?

That's not an option.

If all else fails, the script still remains. As in, it could be edited if needed.
What's bad about it? Or, why shouldn't it be 4?

There is nothing wrong with 4 characters, i was just thinking if i were to somehow make less dashes or remove the dashes it would make a slightly shorter code, but it doesn't matter. The 4 or 5 dashes are not gonna make much difference, nevermind me asking.

In my humble opinion, the dashes make it easier to read.

That's the entire point of having them.
Same as having the digits in another color than the letters.

They aren't exactly part of the code, as they are added only after the code is generated, and they are also simply removed before the actual code is loaded back.

Anyway, it is possible to change it. With some optional setting about it if needed.
But, well, currently not...

Then again, 4 characters seems to be somewhat standard. People are used to it.

Only idiots never ask anything.

Ok I downloaded the map and I'm reading the triggers (gosh this is hard...) anyways, I'm having a very hard time understanding.

Code:
Custom script:   set udg_Code = SaveLoad_Encode()

What does it do? What values does it take and returns? How does it help us?

Thanks.

It takes nothing and returns a string...

Tried reading the comments?

-------- Those values need saving --------
Set Save[1] = 123
Set Save[2] = -456
Set Save[3] = 7890
-------- The number of values we have --------
Set SaveCount = 3
-------- Turn values into code --------
Custom script: set udg_Code = SaveLoad_Encode()
-------- Show code to player --------
Quest - Display to (Player group((Triggering player))) the Secret message: Your code:
Game - Display to (Player group((Triggering player))) for 60.00 seconds the text: Code

With that example, "Code", a global variable of type string, will end up with the save/load code for the three values in the "Save" array.

But how? What is SaveLoad_Encode()? Also 2 more lines that I didn't understand, I hope it's ok. :)

Custom script: set udg_Validate = SaveLoad_Decode( udg_Code )

What's Validate? Again, what's SaveLoad_Decode?

Hero - Set (Last created unit) Hero-level to Save[SaveCount], Hide level-up graphics

Where do you define save?

Eh... what?

Do you have any kind of understanding of JASS?

Those are functions defined in the map's custom script section...

This is a joke, right?

I do have a very basic JASS knowledge. I know those are custom script functions I asked what is their job... Never mind, if you find this question so idiotic I will pass.

> Where do you define save?

This is a joke, right?

To be honest? Not at all, I'm simply not WE pro... I looked in SaveLoad Initialization Hero, and in SaveLoad Load Hero, the only 2 triggers that have connection to loading and I didn't see it defined.

Also, what is validate supposes to do?

I thought it was better to ask and know more rather then don't ask and learn less, however, it seems that you disagree? I don't doubt what you did, you are graet mapper, I would simply like to understand rather then copy.

It seems as a very great Save/Load code, but I came upon a small question... As always :p

Does this code work over different maps if the values of Code variables are same?

Let's assume that would not work at all.

How could you expect to take the "demo" map and import it into your own in a way that results in some working save / load code?

q.e.d.

Import "demo" map? No, you didn't get me :p

I mean't would it be possible to save a Hero on one map, and then load it on another if all the variables etc. that have to do something with code would be the same?

"q.e.d."

What does this mean? "quod erat demonstrandum"?

I thought you had to make your own encryption, didn't realize JASS could implement the pre-set odd letter number combo thing. Cool, good to learn this.
