Is It Possible?

Is there anyway possible to move my Warcraft III game from my computer to my laptop. I lost the disk a long time ago, but still have the cd key, and just bought my self a new mac book. So i figured because of the whole not having to use a disk to play the game it must be on my computer. Which means i should be able to move it, right? Just wondering if it is possible.

As you still have the CD Key you can register at Battle.net and re-download Warcraft III for free.

you could connect the computers and just drag the file over. Or maybe I'm missing something.

the above doesnt work - dragging the file over makes the computer "think" it doesnt exist (as it hasnt been properly installed)

Dragging wouldn't work, because WC3 also has registry values.

It worked for me too, except i couldnt open maps by clicking, i had to open world edit and click open. That was probably the only noticeable problem I had.

It works with copy-paste... You have problems with patches that are applied manually (no idea about the Battle.net updating) and with registered extensions (as in you can't open maps by clicking).

However, if you do have legit CD-keys, just download the game from Blizzard, it's for free ;).

One of the recent patches allows you to play without the CD.

I do it all the time.
It is possible, but you will need to add the registry files if you want to patch.

You can export the values, or do it manually.

Just drag the folder to where you want it, and it'll work. (I actually did this and was able to run it off of a flash drive, although it was laggy on larger maps, it did work).

I guess that this operation is impossible between two Windows PC's but...

Between two Macs it is possible.

This is so because installing and uninstalling software in a Mac is literally elementary. I have a MacBook and I can testify to the simplicity. Installing WarCraft is all about putting some files in a folder; deleting the game consists of simply deleting this folder. The Mac does not handle many files in different places that are needed for an application to work - everything is contained in a single folder or even a single file. Thus, if you take your time to transfer 600 MB of data between the two Mac's, it should be fine.

Also, congrats on buying a Mac ;) And good luck installing TFT on it :|

It's possible to copy it on Windows.... Did I not just say I've done it before?

I to have done it. It works on windows you just need to use Regedit, and edit the wc3 registrys to the new location, I move it between about 3 computers over a few month period then to a external harddrive, then finally to my computer that I'm using now. And I've downloaded patches and everything during those periods.
