The Chili Peppers are a kick-ass band that plays funky-ass music, they've gone trough all kinds of music styles of funk-rock to modern rock. The best albums could be Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication.

Lord Phoenix mentioned Dream Theater. Let me just tell you that in each of their respective fields, all five of the band members are probably the most talented of their kind. As well as being virtuosos, they also play a wide variety of music. If you're into metal, buy either their most recent album, "Systematic Chaos", or one from 2003, "Train of Thought". Rage Against the Fucking Machine.

Their self-titled debut is the best album made, hands down.
Try some Rammstein as well, I couldn't suggest an album (I've only got 2 ) but they are good.
