Read the question carefully.

It's saying that the difference in the cost of the blue and the green is 1.00.

That means that if the green's cost is "X", then the blue's cost is "X + 1.00".

Thus, X + (X + 1.00) = 1.10

Thus, 2X + 1.00 = 1.10

Thus, 2X = 0.10

Thus, X = 0.05

Or instead of trying to workout wut u just said, Use the calculator

1.10 - 1.00 = 0.10
0.10(GreenBarrel)+1.00(BlueBarrel)=1.10(Total)

That's your problem. You have calculated what you did correctly, but it's just that you're not doing what you're supposed to.

I'm not going to argue this with you anymore. Go back and reread the thread. Read it with an open mind, and carefully consider what everyone else has written. Maybe then you'll figure out where you went wrong. Good luck.

Now let me simplify the problem AS I HEARD IT FROM POSTER

1.) Two barrels
2.) Together they cost 1.10
3.) Blue is 1.00 more then green barrel

The Solution

1.)1.10(Total)-1.00(BlueBarrel)=0.10(GreenBarrel)
2.)GreenBarrel(0.10)+BlueBarrel(1.00)=Total(1.10)

OK, I'm breaking my own rule because we seem to have made progress.

Here's the problem. You never accounted for the fact that the blue is 1.00 more than the green. You've said, twice, that the TOTAL is 1.00 more than the green, which isn't stated in the problem, and is thus not neccessarily true.

The difference is supposed to be 1.00. In your example it's 0.90.

You're looking for two numbers that add up to 1.10. The numbers must be 1.00 apart.

How far apart are 1.00 and 0.10?

and
(blue) + (green) = 1.10
