A user by the name of schneehopli in SC2armory.com posted an article about the Zerg in Starcraft 2. A must read for all aspiring Zerg players out there.

Zerg are now very macro-oriented. You can not, under any circumstance, stop producing. You are not meant to win after one attack, you are meant to keep coming. Crush your enemy under waves of increasing pressure while you grow, expand and infest. As a Zerg player you must adopt this view above all. You cannot stop, you cannot allow them a lull, you cannot give them a break. The Zerg should not be playing fair.

Not really all that obsessive.

My seriously mad mass-production skills got me from placement to Diamond.
Only Blizzard knows why...
Couple games later it was Platinum.
And that's where the real deal happens...

I met people there that outproduced, by numbers(!), an active Zerg.
Needless to say, I didn't last long there.

Since then it's gotten better.
The "secret"? Being more annoying. Much more annoying. It's the only thing that has a chance.
Building up and an all out attack? Forget it, you won't hold.

6 Banelings... oh, look, the front door's open.
Here's 10 Zerglings for fun.
Given they are now inside, here's 10 more for good measure.
Oh, and, given you're getting a bit obsessed now with that front door,
here's 10 Roaches, by Nydus to the back of your base.
Followed by some Mutalisks.
And then some more.
And then everything that moves, 30 Zerglings, 12 Roaches, all the Mutalisks I can manage...
If I keep this pressure up just long enough, it might get to the point where you "gg".
Note the "might".

That's where Zerg are at currently.
Anything less than constant attacks, preferably with results, will not get you anywhere.
Maybe Silver / Gold, but if you plan on "better", you need more than a couple Roaches.

As Zerg, you have to out-number, out-power, out-base, out-wit, out-everything your opponent.
His technology is vastly superior to yours.
Give him a 5 minutes break and you're dead.

As for that "Zerg don't play fair"... the Zerg has no notion of good and bad. We're Zerg, we're out for the kill.

I just played a 3v3 today with a zerg and yeah, we basically won the game for us midway as I used my shields to block in an enemy while my zerg friend owned like 500 hydras with banelings. After that just constant running in their backdoor with air units while the zerg pushed the front sealed it. We had complete map control and abused it to our full advantage, something zerg is great at.

If there's a philosophy of the swarm, what about the Terrans and the Protoss?

Build some troops, attack and own. End of story.

You can't seriously imply that those would somehow compare to the swarm?
That's ridiculous.
