I learn something new today: Blue field entoptic phenomenon

More commonly known as floaters.


Basically, when you look at the bright azure sky, you sometimes get to see very faint dots zipping around your focus of view. Focus of view, not field of view, is where you would focus your sight upon the bright sky.

Most people can see these dots when they are paying attention to them. I thought I was special for seeing these "UFOs" hovering in the bright clear sky.

Also, floaters are the little worm thingies; blue field entoptic phenomenon refers to the spasms of little dots. I didn't know they were mainly seen against blue skies, though. I thought you could see them if you just focused hard enough. They kept me occupied as a kid

Me too. As a kid I was really curious what strange kinds of things I was seeing when I focused really hard.
It kinda reminded me of watching microbes through a microscope.

Entoptic phenomenon is just when the source of whatever you're seeing is caused by your eye itself. It's not a very special thing, it's actually a weird evolutionary defect.
