One of the basic principles of hosting is having port(s) opened. Otherwise, it would be very very slow.

Battle.net 2.0 is going to come out with Starcraft II.
Like Yoshii said. Starcraft II was delayed due to developement of Battle.net 2.0.

According to what I've read, they aren't planning on immediately releasing it for the "Classic" battle.net games, but they will be patching them to 2.0 not too long after it comes out.
Most likely around the time Diablo 3 comes out.

Oh, and I TOLD EVERYONE THAT WoW AND BATTLE.NET WOULD BE LINKED TO THE POINT YOU CAN CHAT BETWEEN GAMES. AND NO ONE BELIEVED ME (old discussion on Hive...).

News flash.

A game can't control that, you need to forward posts for any game that you can host games with. Try creating a server in Counter Strike: Source, can people join? No, your ports aren't forwarded.

Unless they come up with a bnet autohosting service (so you submit the map and you are given control over kicking players via the bnet host bot).

If anyone's played HoN (Heroes of Newerth, its a stand-alone DotA game), they use their own servers to host the game rather than the players. Looking from the screenshots of the new battle.net, I think they may have a similar system.

I believe I should have been more clear about what I said earlier. Yes, there are several popular games that use the system(s) mentioned above, one of my personal favorite being Left 4 Dead, working exactly how you two described in your replies.
