Oh! I have another possible answer:
By "tried it," it refers to drinking the vodka. The 2nd drunk guy spilled the vodka on the ground; the 1st one survived because 1 shot of vodka won't kill you.

Answer to J (for the frustrated and curious)
Take a tray of ice, or a cup, or anything with ice in it, and put it in the freezer upside down. If the ice has melted out of the container, the power was out for a long time at some point, and the food is likely spoiled.

He did answer it:
The first man was superman, so he flew out the window instead of falling.

@AgentPaper:
I had considered putting a cup of ice in the freezer, but I had assumed that it wouldn't work since it's specifically a refrigerator rather than a freezer, and if the power went out at night and came on again before morning, the ice might melt but the refrigerator section would still be cool enough to keep the food fresh.

As regards the two men...
That's such an old joke, I'm not sure it even counts as a riddle (like the mountain one from The Hobbit that got posted earlier). :p

Aha! I couldn't think of one so here's another!

I dig out tiny caves, and store gold and silver in them. I also build bridges of silver and make crowns of gold. They are the smallest you could imagine. Sooner or later everybody needs my help, yet many people are afraid to let me help them. Who am I?

Yeah, I actually thought of mentioning it was a refrigerator/freezer combo, but thought it would have made it too easy, and that since you rarely see a refrigerator without a freezer, it would be assumed that both were present.

I meant more that, in a temperate climate, it could easily be 85 degrees during the day and 55 degrees at night. Refrigerated (not frozen, since you said specifically a refrigerator) food could stay fresh for several hours at 55 degrees, but would spoil quickly at 85 degrees. Therefore, I had been looking for a solution that would be able to take into account the ambient temperature during the presumed power outage, and a cup of ice would have melted at 55 degrees. I actually mentioned a cup of ice being one of the ideas I had previously considered and discarded in an earlier post. :p

Ok, I found three. (Actually four, but I used one already.) They could have multiple answers.. but I do have specific answers in mind.

If you live in Tokyo, fly 50 miles northwest, then 80 miles north, then 70 miles south, then 80 miles west, and then 20 miles northeast, where do you live?

What is the answer to this question?

If I ask you to say something in another language, but you don't know that language, how do you say it?
