I have an idea, how to improve something really really bad in WE

Sometimes with pritty big maps.. You have a lot, and a lot of variables..
When you want to make something, and you have to choose a variable there can be a pritty big list, and sometimes its confusing, and sometimes, its verry confusing...

When i created my multi mode map, i stored mode 1 in a the array 1. and for mode 2 for array 2..

because every mode was soo big, and if a had to create like 50+ variables for each on of them that wasnt such a bad idea to do.

But what if... You have folders in the Variable editor?
Like open a folder and the variable can be accessed. and close a folder and the variables are hidden for you, you can't select them, you can't choose them from the list when selecting a variable but if you highlight a box, show all variables, then they show. even when the folder is closed.

Example: Im creating a spell. So i use global variables likely never to be used by me again once the spell is finished.

Variable list:
Code:
[Normal vars (Unclose able non folder)]
String_PlayerLeaveMessages - String - no value
Point_CenterOfMap - Point - no value
Boolean_Level1 - Boolean - False(default)
+ [Spell Solar Flare]
|_ Solar_Flare_StartPoint - Point - no value
   Solar_Flare_endPoint - Point - no value
   Solar_Flare_allowedunits - unit array (5)- no value
   Solar_Flare_X - Real - no value
   Solar_Flare_Y - Real - no value
   Solar_Flare_Distance - Real - no value
+ [Player Vars]
|_ Player_Name - String array (12) - no value
   Player_Colors - String array (12) - no value
   Player_Color - Player Color array (12) - no value

Now.. i'm gonna work on my spell. I would like to set a variable when im busy triggering..
So i set the variable editor to this...

Code:
[Normal vars (Unclose able non folder)]
String_PlayerLeaveMessages - String - no value
Point_CenterOfMap - Point - no value
Boolean_Level1 - Boolean - False(default)
+ [Spell Solar Flare]
|_ Solar_Flare_StartPoint - Point - no value
   Solar_Flare_endPoint - Point - no value
   Solar_Flare_allowedunits - unit array (5)- no value
   Solar_Flare_X - Real - no value
   Solar_Flare_Y - Real - no value
   Solar_Flare_Distance - Real - no value
+ [Player Vars]

I wanna select a variable from the WE i'm busy with my spell
Now the list that i press down looks like this..

Code:
variable - Select a variable [V] [ ] - Show all variables
           String_PlayerLeaveMessages
           Point_CenterOfMap
           Boolean_Level1 - Boolean
           Solar_Flare_StartPoint
           Solar_Flare_endPoint
           Solar_Flare_allowedunits
           Solar_Flare_X - Real
           Solar_Flare_Y - Real
           Solar_Flare_Distance

Now i was thinking to create a floating text above the triggering unit with his name.. But im in the editor.. And its really stupid to go back to the variable and turn on the map with the player names.

So what i do, is highlight the checkbox so the variable list i choose from looks like this..

Code:
variable - Select a variable [V] [[B]x[/B]] - Show all variables
           String_PlayerLeaveMessages
           Point_CenterOfMap
           Boolean_Level1 - Boolean
           Solar_Flare_StartPoint
           Solar_Flare_endPoint
           Solar_Flare_allowedunits
           Solar_Flare_X - Real
           Solar_Flare_Y - Real
           Solar_Flare_Distance - Real
           Player_Name
           Player_Colors
           Player_Color

I really hope you consider useing this idea to include in your map editor.

How to create this and make it compatible for WE?
-Create comments readable for your language to create those folders.
So warcraft 3 WE reads over them and yours picks them up
-Make a final save, so the folder tags will be deleted.
If you don't what that or it isnt possible that way, then make it only compatible with yours.

Note: This isnt in alphabetical order, Because i'm lazy fat and big boned.
But you get the idea ;]

Thanks for reading.

Slapshot, about WEU, don't get it, its bad, its screws up maps.

I had a relaly bad experience with mine, it was a fantastic RPG, the terrain just screwed soo bad, itll take me hours, days to fix it. Thats if ur not careful, and it raises your filesize by quite a chunk. Of course theres more terrain choices, but thats what screwed up my map, so now i live with what i have, compromise instead, trust me, ur not missing out on ANYTHING.

WEU lets you do a lot more than without. If you're not careful and you don't back up your map, then sure (something could happen). I've used it for a long time now, and I've never run into a problem.

Is the interface of your WE actually that nice or are you using Windows Vista?

> WEU lets you do a lot more than without.
Wrong. WEU is still WE, it just allows you easier access (using GUI, duh) to some things you could normally do with a simple Custom Script.

> When can we expect to see a finished product (roughly)?
AFAIK Zoxc has pretty much put this on hold since his PC is working loosely and he has to work on the WEHelper.
In other words don't hope to see it any time soon.

> Is this developed using Visual Basic?
Nope, Delphi.
