I realize I'm in the minority, but I will never play multiplayer and I will never play competitively, but if I understand this new Battle.net stuff, regardless if you're playing single player or not, it has to always be connected to BNet? Personally, I think that really kinda sux... Anyone know if this is gonna be true, that regardless you have to always be connected?

I'm sure they will include an offline mode similar to Steam's. I think what they mean is that battle.net will always be handling achievements and stats that you acquire.

Steam's offline mode sucks. I always have to walk out of my room, out my front door, go to my next door neighbor's house, knock on the door, ask them to borrow a little bit of their wireless connection, come back to my room, log onto Steam, logout, then go back out to my neighbor's house, tell them that it's finished, come back, then start my game in offline mode.

God it's a pain in the feet.

Just to answer your quote, you're wrong. Steam disables offline mode when you save your account data on your PC.

I hope they just completely stay away from this "you have to be connected to the internet" bullshit to prevent piracy, especially like they've done in RA3, Spore and Bioshock 2, with the limited amount of installations per key.

It's completely pointless as it only delays the cracks out there by a day or so, and will only prevent people from playing when the internet is out for the moment.

Next to that, it's not like people would be able to go play multi-player with the LAN not existing in SC2 and all.

well, you gotta check your steam installation, I CAN play offline without logging in beforehand (and guess what, my friends can too, so the problem should be on your pc)

I agree, my laptop doesn't have connection everywhere, and I think it would be nice to be able to play offline. :(

It may depend on the game. I can't play TF2 offline, but I have no problems at all with Left 4 Dead or Mirror's Edge (both of which have a single player mode).

I do like the fact that they're adding support similar to steam which lets you talk to people while playing in single player, but it's kind of annoying having yet-another-social-gaming-site. Windows Live, Steam, and now Battle.net all having networks means I can't communicate to all my contacts without having all 3 networks open. This is starting to sound like the Instant Messenger wars all over again.

there will probably be a hack out after a few days, which allows you to add it to another messanger (like normal bnet <.<)
right now i got some icq client wich also supports steam and bnet as well as msn jabber (and guess what, icq^^) it also allows me to form meta contacts so i only got one history no matter what you are writing with

I personally think always online is stupid. More than likely, like steam does with certain games (Empire total war) You can't play unless you have latest patch or have internet.

Its stupid, we should be able to play offline, we don't always wanna have to be online..

No LAN and always online is disappointing, yes - I think we have all deduced it.

But does anyone have comments on the rest of it?

Also note the big text at the bottom: "The images on this page depict features that are currently in development, and should not be considered final." :p

I'm sure they'll have some sort of offline mode where you can still work on the campaign and such. It just won't save is my guess

Seriously...
They just want to encourage playing while being logged into battle net all the time, for example by adding achievements (that no one really cares about) that you can unlock if you play online. You can still play offline just like in Warcraft 3.

There is still an offline mode called "Play as Guest" where you simply play skirmish and campaign etc..
