Whistleblowing website WikiLeaks said Monday it was planning to publish nearly three million more secret documents in its next mass release of confidential material, according to its Twitter feed.

WikiLeaks did not say when the release would be, nor on what subject, but the number of documents would be seven times larger than its release last month when it posted some 400,000 secret documents about the war in Iraq on its site.

"Next release is 7x the size of the Iraq War Logs. intense pressure over it for months. Keep us strong," WikiLeaks said on its Twitter feed, adding a link to a donations website.

It would be WikiLeaks' third mass release of classified documents after it published 77,000 secret US files on the Afghan conflict in July.

Who took the time to write 3 million secret documents, then let them become not-so-secret? Sounds like they are bullshitting the number :)

Honestly, even if all the media forces of the world come together in unison (which they won't) to read and combine the meanings of these documents, we will be left with some lame semi-secret stuff that most people probably assumed was true anyways.

I guess its the thought that counts?

Pentagon Alerts House, Senate Panels to New Classified WikiLeaks Release

The Pentagon warned the U.S. Senate and House Armed Services Committees that the website WikiLeaks.org “intends to release several hundred thousand” classified U.S. State Department cables as soon as Nov. 26.

The documents “touch on an enormous range of very sensitive foreign policy issues,” Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs Elizabeth King wrote yesterday in an e-mail to the defense panels.

“We anticipate that the release could negatively impact U.S. foreign relations,” she wrote, telling committee staff, “We will brief you once we have a better understanding of what documents the WikiLeaks publication contains.”

King said The New York Times, the U.K.’s The Guardian and Der Spiegel of Germany “are each currently working with WikiLeaks to coordinate the release of these State Department documents.”

Wikileaks release to damage foreign relations, US says

Wikileaks' plan to release millions more classified American documents will damage the US and its relations, the state department has warned.

A spokesman said: "These revelations are harmful to the United States and our interests."

He added: "They are going to create tension in relationships between our diplomats and our friends around the world."

The whistleblower website says it will publish nearly three million documents.

The spokesman, PJ Crowley, said the state department had known for some time that Wikileaks had obtained some of its classified documents. He said congress had been warned of the impending leak.

He added that US diplomatic missions around the world had begun notifying other governments that the documents may be released within days.

"We wish this would not happen, but we are obviously prepared for the possibility that it will," he said.

U.S. warns Ottawa of WikiLeak release

The U.S. government has notified Ottawa that the WikiLeaks website is preparing to release sensitive U.S. diplomatic files that could damage U.S. relations with allies around the world.

U.S. officials say the documents may contain accounts of compromising conversations with political dissidents and friendly politicians and could result in the expulsion of U.S. diplomats from foreign postings.

A Foreign Affairs spokeswoman said the U.S. ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, has phoned Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon to inform him of the matter.

Melissa Lantsman said the Canadian Embassy in Washington is "currently engaging" with the U.S. State Department on the matter.

the only reason i can see something damaging their relations is if they actually did something bad directly or indirectly to that country(ies), in which case i believe said country(ies) has the right to know. or something that goes against what the U.S is and in that case should also be known...

Most of this stuff relates to just basic international politics. Shady deals, and secret conversations is just how it goes down. However this leak package doesn't involve just the US, dozens of countries are on the list and some of the stuff revealed can put many lives in danger, possibly even start a war between them. So can I say this is good thing? Not really, Its a nice philosophy that they have going, that the public should know what is going but the risks these people are playing. We can only wait and see if Wikileaks will be looked upon as Heroes or Villains.

However, according to the UK-based Arabic daily newspaper al-Hayat, the WikiLeaks release includes documents that show Turkey has helped Al Qaeda in Iraq - an extraordinary revelation which could kill off the country’s hopes of joining the EU.

Wikileaks hacked ahead of secret US document release

Whistle-blowing website Wikileaks says it has come under attack from a computer-hacking operation, ahead of a release of secret US documents.

"We are currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack," it said on its Twitter feed earlier.

It added that several newspapers will go ahead and publish the documents released to them by Wikileaks even if the site goes down.

The US state department has said the release will put many lives at risk.
